Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers // Venus Shaver

Some performers prance around onstage charismatically, feeding off the energy of a completely captive audience, becoming more haughty with every added decibel of applause. For others their bravado is more intrinsic, something that oozes uncontrollably from their inner beings. For this breed of performer no applause is necessary, you can just hear it in their voices.

Shilpa Ray is one of these performers. No matter what she sings over you can just hear a matchless swagger dripping from her vocal chords. And when a singer exudes so much passion, the listener can't help catching it.

Her 7" single "Venus Shaver", available in mid-October, serves as a precursor to the forthcoming full-length Teenage and Torture, set for release January 18th, 2011 on Knitting Factory Records.
