Chaser? No. Filler? Perhaps.

Up to this point everything Them Crooked Vultures related has managed to maintain an air of mystery. Maybe less so now that they've played ACL/Lollapalooza and a handful of tour dates but at one time no band was more interesting or beguiling. From 15-second album snippits that would crop up on YouTube as well as terrible quality bootleg videos, cryptic websites and show announcements, surprise appearances opening up for Arctic Monkeys among others, all mounted to create a barnstorm of intrigue and publicity. And for good reason too, the short snippits all sounded groundbreaking while maintaining the spirit of truly ballsy rock and roll.

Then on Tuesday the boys gave away the MP3 "Mind Eraser, No Chaser" away for free via iTunes. To my surprise it's a very straight up Eagles of Death Metal meets Queens of the Stone Age affair that has me questioning my decision to put off my end of year list-making until TCV's album is released. I'm holding out hope that this is some sort of filler track or b-side, because it simply just doesn't touch any of the bootleg stuff I've seen.
