3OH!3

Usually nothing screams gangsta like two white, becostumed, hipster, suburbanites, but Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte are just about as hard-core as it gets. Their synchronized dance moves whip crowds into frenzies, their low-budget videos are a web-sensation, their brash lyrics make the girls' panties drop (Shush girl, shut your lips. Do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips), but it's all in a days work for the boys as the represent their beloved 303.

3OH!3's musical stylings are as hard to define as their audience is to describe. The electronica-punks have opened up for such legitimate rap-acts as Snoop Dogg. The emo-crunkers have also gained some national exposure on the Warped tour in both '07 and '08.

Their official bio aims at pin-pointing their uniquely unexplainable style like this: head-rattling wordplay, skronky electronic experimentation and bowel-loosening beats.

In any case you will find their full-length debut Want to be fantastically dance-tastic.

Khusara Khusara

I realize Best of Bellydance seems like an odd choice for album of the week I think if you give it a chance you will find some hot grooves in there. But don't just take my word for it, Timbaland loves this album as well (as you can tell from the Khusara Khusara clip below).

and also here in this Enta Omri clip

...and because I found this amusing I will share Wayne&Wax's Timbaland/Hossam Ramzy mashup Big Khusara, in which he proved to me once and for all that copyrighting your music is a big waste of time and money.

well, they'll never be the same

=w=: right, but st. anger was just that to me, it was really really forced
mikey: yeah, st. anger was a strain
everyone's waiting for this one though
=w=: if they keep doing that with no passion then it taints all the good legendary stuff the built up

No Deliverance

With all the Brett Favre drama going down this summer it may have overshadowed the other big, um... un-retirement - the Toadies. After playing a handful of dates throughout the summer, including Lollapalooza earlier this month, the band has released it's third full-length studio album No Deliverance.

While Deliverance might not be considered the best of the Toadies' records, its still sounds very Toadies -a refreshing fact after the very forgettable sophomore release of Vaden Lewis' other band Burden Brothers in 2006.

And unlike it's title the Toadies' new album really delivers. The anger that fueled the first two Toadies records is back for the new disc. The opening track So Long Lovey Eyes (arguably the best song on the disc) was written during a fight between Lewis and his wife, and sounds reminiscent of Quitter off of Rubberneck.

Overall it is a very solid record from one of the last pure rock and roll bands we have left, and although it might not be their best release, any Toadies is better than no Toadies at all.

The Ropes and The Fucking Most Pleasant Mix...Ever!

I was recently turned on to a pretty decent electronic-pop duo from New York called The Ropes. The first song of theirs I checked out was I Don’t Like to Get Dirty from their Cry to the Beat EP. "You can all go fuck yourselves/You can all go burn in hell" Sharon Shy gently croons in the song’s opening lines and I am immediately taken aback and sucked in at the same time. The song later picks up, "The only reason I haven't put myself in the ground already/Is I don't like to get dirty." –brilliant lyricism on what is maybe the most upbeat song about severe depression ever.

I don't know what it is about acoustic guitars or gentile balladry that makes the F word sound even more abrasive and yet somehow strangely amiable at the same time. It gave me the idea to make "The Fucking Most Pleasant Mix...Ever". Enjoy.

Vampire Voltage

Am I the only person disappointed by Beck's latest release Modern Guilt? Beck + Danger Mouse somehow doesn't equal the sum of their parts in my book. The B-side to Chem Trails far surpasses any of the album cuts and serves to redeem Beck in my eyes. The psychadelic-punk riffs from the second half of Vampire Voltage are pure Sabbath. This is one track Danger Mouse didn't soil.

Id Engager

of Montreal's follow up to their 2007 manic depressive oeuvre Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? is not scheduled for release until this October, but you can whet your appetite with the latest single Id Engager from their upcoming lexicon-expanding, electro dance pop masterpiece Skeletal Lamping.

oM's frontman and mastermind Kevin Barnes shares his thoughts on Lamping here.

One of the things (besides the rampant double bass guitar parts) that I love most about of Montreal is the combination of dance lesson and vocabulary lesson that comes with every album. As a fun exercise I decided to list the words from the last few albums that required me to pull out the old dictionary; anathema, antediluvian, opalsecent, deliquesce, coquet, somnolent, vicissitudes, and lysergic.

p.s. Did anybody else notice there were no nipples in this publicity shot, though it should have between 3 and 4.5?

One Day as a Lion

If there was any question before where RATM's rage came from, then question no further. Using just his keyboard, vocals, and a drummer (Mars Volta's Jon Theodore) Zach de la Rocha is more rage than Audioslave ever was.

"One Day as a Lion is both a warning delivered and a promised kept"

And while their repertoire might be a little too narrow to pull of a full-length album, their 5 song e.p. definitely holds its own.
