My Favorite Fruit

Just caught word of this California duo; don't have much back story yet. Pomplamoose is Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn, a pair of DIY bedroom recording artists who've only been at it for 5 or 6 months now. Either way, their charm and talent will surely get noticed by someone much more important than me. I'm just doing my part to get their name on Google and Hype Machine at least one more time. They're worth it.

Dawn's voice is incredibly quaint on the ears (and she ain't so bad on the eyes, either). Her vocal style is akin to that popular Feist-y/Cat Power-ish/Yamagata-esque timbre. But she's no rip-off mockingbird; this is her natural state. Just play a track, and you'll hear how effortless (but not lazy) she is in conjuring melodies.

As their many Youtube "video-songs" demonstrate, the pair covers all the instrumentation in each song, but keep it subdued enough for the vocals to own the focus.

Here are a couple of their videos, followed by an MP3 to download:

Pomplamoose - "Twice as Nice"

Pomplamoose - "La Vie en Rose" (Edith Piaf Cover)

Visit their Myspace page to purchase ALL of their songs for only $6. Worth it. Believe that.

PS: Check out Nataly Dawn's solo music and videos as well, they're delicious.
